Why?
The Engineers Without Borders club president reached out to me to create a t-shirt that was both fun and professional for their club events, presentations, and for their members to wear.
PROJECT AT A GLANCE
- Two styles of original lettering
- Color plotting for lettering
- Dynamic elements in lettering
- Mockup for visual aid
THE DETAILS
I began by planning the styles of lettering I would use. I wanted a mix of straight-edge lettering and custom cursive to provide fun and professional elements to the design. I tried various color swatches, but settled on a classic blue and strawberry red to give high contrast and have the cursive letters be the visual pull to the shirt. I wanted the letters to break their borders, just as the club name implies, so I added arrows moving out of the lines of text for the blue words, and extending elements on the cursive to add a visual implication of breaking barriers. I then added a soft-edged flag behind the cursive to make it pop from the t-shirt, enforce its visual dominance, and hint at the mission and purpose of the club: a service-oriented club helping poorer nations around the world.
